The Royals are looking to send C Mitch Maier and SS Rayner Laya to the Cubs for SS Pete Kozma.
The Royals are looking for a utilitarian mid infielder to cover the bases in case of injury (very common with Cano). The Cubs are in need of a second catcher who can "do it all" in Maier. Maier can play LF and CF very well, and is an average batter. Rayner Laya is included to replace the gap created by shipping out Pete Kozma.
