St Louis is desperate for cash to re-sign some key FAs, it is also no secret that at the moment they only are 4 strong in their rotation

For that reason Oakland has agreed to give Jason Olsen and Brian Meadows for Matt Morris.

Morris is scheduled to make 11.5m this coming season and the 2 following, this move will free up an immediate 5.5m in cap for the Cards next season, and an additional 3m if they choose to buyout the contract of Meadows. On top of this, they get a complete rotation for the rest of the season with 2 guys desperately needing a change in scenery from Oakland.

The Cards gain a total of 8.5m going into the offseason (3m of their 3.1m currently is cash money, this will give them roughly $12,729,000 for extensions instead of the measly $1,229,000)

In this trade, the Athletics clear up the overabundance of SPs they have on roster while the Cards gain a complete rotation for their attempted return trip. The cards also gain more money to spend going into next season.

Approved...although I don’t see the a’s gaining much here. However Morris has put up much better numbers than Olsen for comparison.

Gotcha. I think this is a perfect example of why ratings arent the end all be all. Judging from a pure ratings perspective, Olsen should be better but isnt.
