Back to the Basics: Rebuilding the Baltimore Orioles (MLB The Show 2020)

So while we're all holed up dealing with a global pandemic, without sports, I decided that I would take one of the worst teams in the MLB and go into complete rebuild mode to make them relevant again. Enter the Baltimore Orioles, coming off back to back sub 60 win seasons. Since the Manny Machado era ended in Baltimore, the team has been in complete shambles and is in the very early stages of a full overhaul. Follow along (patiently), as I take this team from bottom dweller to title contender and make the likes of Cal Ripken Jr and Brooks Robinson happy and proud again. I will be streaming games live on twitch as well as making weekly dynasty report posts in this channel.

Before we start, these are the settings I will be using to start this adventure:

Hitting Difficulty: HOF
Hitting Interface: Zone
Pitching Difficulty: HOF
Pitching Interface: Meter

Roster: Ridin Full Minors
Settings and Sliders: Mike Lowe MLB The Show 20 Sliders

Now for some background leading up to the current season. The Orioles have some good young prospects, problem is that they wont be ready for a couple years, but this should give me time to draft well and make some trades to acquire young talent in order to compete for a title in the years to come. I dont expect to be very active in the free agent market early as it just doesn't make sense to spend money on big names when you're not yet at your window. I do plan to be saavy in free agency and get cheap veterans to help the overhaul go more smoothly. I plan on being active in the trade market and plan on really focusing on drafting in the next few seasons. My goal is to play as many games as possible (ironman style) and enjoy the ride.

Lets take a look at the orioles Top Prospects heading into the 2020 MLB season:

Yankees Take the Season Opener in Baltimore

Miguel Andujar hit a solo shot in the 6th to open the scoring for the Yankees after a solid start by Baltimore pitcher John Means. The Yankees would get to the Baltimore bullpen for 4 more runs in this one, capped off by a monster 2 run shot by Giancarlo Stanton. Rio Ruiz knocked in a base hit single for the Orioles. Yankees starter Gerritt Cole got the win, allowing 1 run over 5.2 innings and striking out. Both teams get a day off tomorrow before squaring off again Saturday with Alex Cobb facing off against Yankees starter Luis Severino.

Hicks Powers Yankees to Win
Aaron Hicks hit a 3 run home run in the 7th to put the game out of reach for the Yanks in a 4-0 win against the Orioles. Yankees starter Luis Severino was lights out all night as he struck out 10 Orioles through 8 innings without allowing a run. Orioles scheduled starter Alex Cobb was a late scratch due to personal reasons, so Wade LeBlanc got the start for Baltimore. LeBlanc pitched well, only allowing a single run through 6 strong innings before handing things off to the bullpen. Trey Mancini was the lone bright spot for the Orioles offense with 2 hits in the game including his first double of the season. The series wraps up tomorrow night as Alex Cobb is scheduled to make the start against James Paxton. If Cobb is unable to start again, Asher Wojciechowski will be on the bump for the O's.
