After a Rough Start to the season, Oakland is looking to build a strong foundation of leaders to propel team development further and hopefully propel the team into the playoffs. Oakland has chosen to trade away starting Shortstop Tony Batista and a number of prospects for a Stopgap Shortstop that will be able to play very good baseball until Bartlett is ready to take the reigns, and a solid Rotation pitcher currently experiencing a bad season and would really benefit from a change of scenery.

In this deal the Astros pick up a number of prospects and shed the monster contract of Hampton
