Top 10 Ridiculously Bad NFL Draft Picks

Hello PX1!! Tex here! So, When I am on lunch break at work or get a minute here and there, I like to watch this youtube channel called "WatchMoJo". They do a bunch of Top 10 count downs on various things ranging from Music, to sports, to entertainment, to almost everything. I'm not sure why but I like these videos. I came across one the other day, I thought would be a good topic of forum discussion. The video was labeled "Top Ten Ridiculously Bad NFL Draft Picks" and here is the video.

They put together their own top 10 list of NFL draft pick busts, for various reasons and they explain why. I wanted to see if anyone's list would match theirs, or differ. Here is their list.

  • 10: OL Tony Mandarich - 1989 Draft Rd 1 Pick 2 (GB) - Battled substance abuse. 5 years in NFL.
  • 9: QB Heath Shuler - 1994 Draft Rd 1 Pick 3 (WAS) - 3,691 yards, 15-33 TD/INT, 54.3 QBR
  • 8: HB Ki-Jana Carter - 1995 Draft Rd 1 Pick 1 , (CIN) - 319 att, 1,144 yd, 20 TD, plagued by injury
  • 7: DL Courtney Brown - 2000 Draft Rd 1 Pick 1 (CLE) - 156 Tak, 19 Sack, 6 FF
  • 6: QB Tim Couch - 1999 Draft Rd 1 Pick 1 (CLE) - 11,131 yards, 64-67 TD/INT, 75.1 QBR
  • 5: HB Lawrence Phillips - 1996 Draft Rd 1 Pick 6 (STL) - 1,453 yd, 13 TD, legal troubles
  • 4: QB Akili Smith - 1999 Draft Rd 1 Pick 3 (CIN) - 2,212 yd, 5/13 TD/INT, 52.8 QBR, 3-14 record
  • 3: WR Charles Rodgers - 2003 Draft Rd 1 Pick 2 (DET) - 36 rec, 440 yd, 4 TD, injury/off field
  • 2: QB Jamarcus Russell - 2007 Draft Rd 1 Pick 1 (OAK) - 4,083 yd, 18/23 TD/INT, 65.2 QBR
  • 1: QB Ryan Leaf - 1998 Draft Rd 1 Pick 2 (SD) - 3,666 yd, 14/36 TD/INT, 50.0 QBR

This is a topic that comes around usually every April in preparation for the draft. These individuals will never be forgotten for all the wrong reasons. What do you think of this list? How would your list differ? I'm interested to hear!!

I don’t think carter deserves to be on the list. You can’t predict injury. He was amazing when healthy

Bosworth was terrible. All bark and no bite. Agree on Carter. Terrell David gotbinnthe Hall of Fame even though injury shortened career. More sad than bust for Carter. Good list overall. Johnny probably isn't on the list bc he wasn't drafted that high. And Carr probably would have been better if he didn't get sacked 70 times in a season.

Isn't it still a bust if you draft a guy that high and he cant stay healthy?

I think he tore up his knee. I guess technically he's a bust but wouldn't put a productive when healthy player in same class as a dude that just flat out couldn't play personally.
