NHL 14 Reviews/Impressions

I haven't played NHL 14 a lot but so far I think it is pretty good. Its hard, at least for me. I haven't played since NHL 10 so adjusting to the new controls is tricky. But I like the overall flow. The camera could be a little tighter I think. It seems a little too far back but that's adjustable from what I've seen.

Be a GM seems pretty in depth. I like that depth a lot in game like NCAA and Madden that I follow closely and know a lot about those aspects. However, the one and two-way contracts are confusing to me. I also don't know how to value certain guys over others so trades are kind of hit and miss for me.

I haven't actually started my Be a GM so I can't really comment on it much other than at the base level. I've also mostly been practicing and not playing actual season games so that's kind of up in the air too. But, for a hockey fan, I think its a must buy.

I can help shead some light on what a one way and two way contract is. A two way contract allows for you to sign a developing player at a lower risk. While he is in the AHL (minor league) he is paid less then when he plays in the NHL. Generally a veteran won't take a two way contract because that increases the likelihood that he won't have NHL playing time and will want a one way contract. Meaning if you do send him down he is still paid his NHL salary.

I've played the demo and am very pleased with the game play. What would be a deal breaker for me is the GM mode. When you play some of the GM mode and BE a pro mode let me know. I purchased nhl 13 and although it is a great game the menus were too difficult to manage effectively and really sucked some of the enjoyment out of it. it shouldn't take 3+ menus to initiate a trade.
