WR Preview

Present

The titans were 20th in yards last year and they made it a focus to improve on that with several new additions. The WR unit is probably the deepest and most competitive on the team and the preseason will be huge for who gets playing time as they all will have a rating in the high 70's to low 80's.

Kendall Wright returns as the #1 WR and coming off a 1,000 yard season he had 57 catches for 715 yards and 6 TD last year. Harry Douglas was brought over after being cut being a surprise cut by the falcons. Like Wright he had over 1,000 yards in 2013 after get more chances due to injuries. In real life Harry is better in the slot then the outside but in madden that is not really a factor. The other vet that was brought in was Hakeem Nicks who is looking to bounce back from his worst season as a pro.

Justin Hunter was drafted 34th overall and has yet to reach his full potential even though he had 500 yards and 3 TD last year. Justin got arrested a few weeks back so a suspension or even him being cut in real life puts his future in jeopardy. Dorial Green Beckham was a 5* recruit coming out of high school and saw his college career end earlier then expected because off the field concerns. Luckily for us that will not effect him as long as he doesn't get into any more trouble. Until the ratings come out its hard to project where DGB will fall in the pecking order but at 6'5 237 he should be perfect with the new catch options.

Two more guys fighting for a job is 7th round Tre Mcbride out of William and Mary and Jacoby Ford. Jacoby is one of the players that should be better in madden then in real life due to his speed.

There is a lot of ways the titans could go with the #2 WR and the slot. Do you go with both young guys right away? Do you go with the vets and let the young guys develop a little more?

Future
The top 3 WR's should be set for years to come Wright is 25, DGB is 22, and Hunter is 24. Also the titans should be able to get a few more years out of Douglas who is 30 and Nicks who is27 if they want to. Nicks only signed a 1 year deal. DGB should be a threat and take over the #1 WR unit by year 3 and if he does that everything else will fall into place. Jacoby Ford should stick around for a few years due to this speed and special teams play as a backup. I wouldn't expect much of Tre Mcbride and his roster spot isn't guaranteed next year. Another person that could be in the mix next year is Dexture Mccluster who has played WR in the past but is needed at HB this year. I wouldn't expect a WR to be drafted in the top 3 rounds next year unless one just falls in there laps and he is BPA.

The Star - Dorial Green Beckham
The unknown - Justin Hunter
Start packing your bags - Tre Mcbride
Offseason priority - Low

I have already wrote a in depth preview of the WR's so I don't want to do that again but I do want to post some more info with all the ratings out. I believe its the most interesting and deepest of the team.

We knew that Wright would be the #1 and that was confirmed and they would be a battle for the #2 spot and slot WR's. The biggest surprise was the speed of the 3 guys in the 3rd tier making them more of a factor espically Mcbride who has a 86 catch to go along with it.

Kendall Wright 83 ovr, 90 spd, 91 acc 94 agi, 90 cth, 87 cit, 86 rr, 84 sp catch.

Harry Douglas 79 ovr, 84 spd. 89 acc, 94 agi, 87 cth , 75 cth 84 rr. 87 spcth

Hakeem Nicks 78 ovr, 85 spd, 90 acc, 81 agi, 85 cth, 87 cit, 71 rr, 82 spcth

DGB - 74 ovr, 89 spd, 89 acc, 91 agi, 85 cth, 87 cit, 69 rr, 91 spcth

Justin Hunter - 75 ovr, 90 spd, 91 acc, 93 agi, 72 cth, 75 cit, 73 rr, 90 spcth

Jacoby Ford - 71 ovr, 93 spd, 93 acc, 90 agi, 72 cth, 74 cit, 68 rr, 88 spcth

Tre Mcbride - 68 ovr, 92 spd, 94 acc, 88 agi, 86 cth, 77 cit, 49 rr, 82 spcth

Clyde Gates - 67 ovr, 93 spd, 90 acc, 92 agi, 69 cth, 64 cit, 65 rr, 81 spcth

Final 2015 Stats

Kendall Wright - 46 catches for 961 yards, 20.9 Avg, 8 TD, long of 92 (with cpu)

Dorial Green Beckham - 43 catches for 599 yards, 13.9 Avg, 2 TD

Justin Hunter - 39 catches for 576 yards, 14.8 Avg, 6 TD

Harry Douglas - 3 catches for 24 yards, 8.0 Avg, 0 TD

Thoughts - This was a unit that played pretty well but lacked the depth that we thought going into the year with Harry Douglas being a non factor and Nicks being cut in preseason. Wright showed to be a true #1 WR and his demands for a new contract has lead the front office beyond frustrated. So he will likely be getting the franchise tag. The young guys DGB and Hunter proved they are more the capable of producing and the stats for them should improve with more passes being called in the future.

2016 WR Preview

This is going to be a boring preview because not a single new player was added at the position. When asked about it the owner had this to say "we had a lot of needs for this team this offseason. We knew that we couldn't fill all of them but we got pretty dad gum close. We felt like we was set after resigning Kendall Wright to a new deal with our top 3 guys coming back".

Kendall Wright (84 ovr) we feel like is a true #1 with ratings like 92 catching, 88 route running, 92 catch in traffic, and over 90 in all 3 speed area's. DGB (77 ovr) and Justin Hunter (77 ovr) both put up solid stats last year and both or one of them needs to officially break out this year.

Harry Douglas (77 ovr) didn't see much time last year as the titans very rarely run 4 WR sets though he is more then capable of filling in if one of the above gets injured. This is make or break year for 2nd year Tre Mcbride who while only being a 67 overall has some very intriguing ratings like 92 speed, 94 acceleration, 87 catching, 88 jump, 82 spec catch. Look for this to be one of the most scouted positions this season.

Final 2016 Stats

Kendall Wright - 47 catches for 957 yards, 20.4 Avg, 4 TD

Dorial Green Beckham - 49 catches for 514 yards, 10.5 Avg, 0 TD

Justin Hunter - 39 catches for 608 yards, 15.6 Avg, 4 TD

Harry Douglas - 7 catches for 67 yards

Thoughts - Overall the stats was almost identical to 2015 for everyone just with fewer TD catches. Wright lead the way once again with just a hair under 1,000 yards, DGB was the possession WR with his 6'5 frame. Hunter was signed to a new deal so he will be back in the mix next year also. One player who once again didn't see the field was Tre Mcbride who could be in for more of a role if some of the DGB trade rumors comes true. Overall this was a unit that still droped to many balls and could use some more speed. Something just doesn't seem to be clicking with these 3 as a unit so maybe its just time to shake things up. Wright is more of #2 WR then a #1 but so far DGB or Hunter has took the brass ring for the #1 WR spot.

Final 2017 Stats

DJ Robinson - 46 catches for 698 yards, 15.2 Avg. 3 TD
Marcus Wheaton - 32 catches for 534 yards, 16.7 Avg. 4 TD
Kendall Wright - 22 catches for 351 yards, 16.0, 7 TD
Jordan Reed - 26 catches for 350 yards, 13.5 Avg. 1 TD
Harry Douglas - 13 catches for 171 yards, 13.2 Avg.
Justin Hunter - 4 catches for 67 yards, 1 TD
Josh Hill - 8 catches for 64 yards, 1 TD

This was a odd year for the the WR unit starting with a 2 month injury for #1 WR Kendall Wright. So that lead them to play a bit of musical chairs early on during the year even bringing back Harry Douglas who went on to have 13 catches. The Rookie WR DJ Robinson really stepped up early but kinda hit the rookie wall around the same time that Wright came back. Marcus Wheaton had to step up and be the #2 WR for most of the year and didn't play as good as his stats showed. Kendall Wright will soon be 29 so its starting to look like he could be on the downside of his prime. Still despite all the missed time he was able to take advantage of the one on one defense with 7 TD's. TE Jordan Reed was solid but a upgrade could be had over Josh Hill. It will be fun to see how things shake out at this position once again you have to expect a WR to be drafted in the top 3 rounds. It looks like its time to finally give up on Tre Mcbride and Justin Hunter. Though Hunter did have a game winning TD catch this year but to be fair he wasn't guarded on that play.

2020 WR Preview

For years the titans have been desperately trying to improve the WR core and always was stuck. When drafting in the mid 20's the position was always picked over by the time they drafted. If a #1 or #2 hit the market then some team always over paid for him. Two veteran WR's was brought in last year Kennan Allen and Calvin Johnson. While Calvin didn't work to well the move of Allen did and he lead the team in catches, yards and TD's. He was brought over for 99 route running and to catch TD's in the redzone and he did his job.

They decided to join the dark side and overpay for a WR in FA offering max deals to 3 guys. It came as shock that Trett Franklin joined the browns and JT Binns took less $ to sign with the bears since both teams are stacked at that position. The good news is Ben Hall the blazing fast 5'9 former Charger will be the #2 WR. His 90 route running and 90 catching means he isn't just a speed guy. If the OL can hold up and Gilbert keeps on improving his deep accuracy then Hall can be the deep threat of the offense with 97 speed and 95 agility. He is going to bring a different dimension to the offense and really make teams think twice about playing so much man to stop the run.

The front office was devastated when Zeke Tarpley was took 2 picks ahead of the titans in the 2nd round. He was initially the target in the 1st round before Shawn Kelly fell longer then the team ever dreamed. The titans didn't see the chargers going WR since they had depth at the position and had just took a WR in the first round. Gordon Cole ended up being the pick and he comes in with a low overall. He has a lot to like at 6'4 233 pounds with 90 speed, 98 jumping and low to mid 80's for all 3 catching. If he proves he can make plays while he gets better at running routes he will be the slot. In his preseason debut he had 5 catchces for 93 yards against the bears. He will play the majority of the snaps in the preseason game tonight. I

There is still plenty of depth at the positions with DJ Robinson who is the most well rounded of the guys and capable of playing outside. Phillip Dorsett is a burner with 96 speed and acceleration and made some big plays last year. Chris Conley is another physical freak at 6'3 he just hasn't improved on running routes.
