Season 3 preview

With a division title and playoff appearance under their belt the cowboys look to build on what they did last year. The only thing is it will be with out their leaders Tony Romo and Jason Witten as they have both retired. Not having total faith that Kellen Moore is the solution to a new franchise Qb they draft phenomenal rookie stand out Collin Scott. Scott went 21st overall and could easily be the steal of the draft and is favored to win rookie of the year. A rough start for Scott already has begun as he was only able to throw 3 NFL passes before separating his shoulder and went down for 4 weeks. Moore will start the season but you have to think Scott will get his shot once he gets healthy because he was nothing less then spectacular in practice.

Robby Duncan was selected with the second pick to replace Witten but has some time before becoming the starter. Gavin Escobar will move to the one spot, hopefully being behind Witten all these years has prepped him for this time.

A sleeper pick in this draft was wideout was Anton Gilbert. Although he might not see a ton of time he will be used in sub packages especially in the endzone his hight and jumping ability, and great hands shown a lot in the preseason and has impressed the coaches. You can tell the coach's eyes lit up with some of the catches he made in preseason. The possibility of him climbing the depth chart is very strong.

The defense is still strong but the question is will the older corners age affect the ability to cover younger faster receivers. They are very good coverage guys and will definitely make the Qb over think throws but down field throws could be the way to beat them with the right coverage called.

They were top 10 in passing last season with an older secondary but they have lost Carr but added Leon hall who is a bit slower but a much better coverage guy. Byron Jones will get a shot in the nickel and dime but there is someone waiting that they gave up Beasley for so his margin for error is very slim.
Overall I think they have a chance to win the division once again. The Qb situation scares me but Moore being there helps and if he goes down Fitzpatrick is there as well. The Qb stable is unproven, but still pretty good as a group. Ups and downs are expected but it will be an exciting ride!
