Panthers Season Review WK 4

Starter
Week 4 just finished with a 34-17 win over the division rival Saints. This win puts the Panthers record at 3-1 on the year so far. It's been a decent start for this Panthers team. They started off with 2 great wins over the Ravens (31-13) and Browns (38-3), but then lost to Big Ben and the Steelers (27-13). In the loss the defense could stop Roethlisberger. He was 19-23 for 267 yards and 2 TDS. The Steelers just played a perfect game against the Panthers that week. But other than that game the revamped defense has been very good this season. They have only given up 60 points thru 4 weeks. The defense has also collected 14 sacks and 8 INTS already. Another great stat for this defense is that they have only given up 198 yards rushing thru the first 4 games. This defense was one of the league worst against the run last season. The defense has definitely been the big story so far this season. Hopefully their play will continue as the season progresses.

On the offensive side of the ball, the team has been led by the passing game. Cam Newton is 69-103 (66%), with 1,094 yards, with 8 TDS and 4 INTS. And he has only been sacked 9 times. Which is a much better rate than last years sack total. The new WR weapons have really helped the Panthers passing game. FA acquisition Jermaine Kearse leads the team with 13 catches for a team high 229 yards and 2 TDS. Rookie, Christian Kirk is 2nd with 12 for 176 and 2 TDS. The passing attack has to lead this team because the run game hasn't gotten going so far this year. And it probably won't get better anytime soon as Leonard Fournette was injured in week 4 and will miss the next few games with a shoulder tear.. So far Fournette has only managed 145 yards on 45 carries (3.2 avg). He does have 5 TDS on the year. Backups Jacorie Stingly and Cameron Artis-Payne will have to pick up the slack while Fournette is out. So far these 2 only have 68 yards combined.

The team hopes to keep their good season going in the next few weeks as they face the Seahawks, Lions, Bengals, and Cowboys. These are some tough teams to play against. If the Panthers could finish 3-1 against these 4, like the first 4 games, I'm sure they would be very excited with their season at the halfway point. We will check back after these 4 games with another review. Until then #Keep Pounding.
