Week 2 vs 49ers

In week 2 of the season the Panthers hosted the 49ers. And the 49ers embarrassed the Panthers in this one, 31-10. The Panthers offense turned the ball over 3 times and were dreadful on 3rd down, on both sides of the ball. Which caused a huge time of possession advantage for the 9ers. Rookie QB Deshaun Watson absolutely torched the Panthers weak secondary. Watson finished 16-20 for 186 yards and 3 TDS and 0 INTs. Cam Newton on the other hand threw 2 picks in this game. One of those was a horrible decision, when he threw into double coverage in the end zone, right before half time. The Panthers were in field goal range already and instead of a possible 10-3 game, it was 10-0 going into the half. Newton did finish with 305 yards and 62% completions but that doesn't really matter when you turn the ball over. He also had the other TO, when he was sacked and fumbled the ball.

Unlike the first game, rookie Leonard Fournette couldn't find any room this week against an unbelievable 49er defense. They bottled Fournette up all game as he could only manage 45 yards on 14 carries. He was once again held out of the end zone. He had another TD run vultured. This time by Cameron Artis-Payne. Who only had 1 carry, but it went for a 5 yard TD.

The Panther were led by Greg Olsen with 8 catches for 89 yards. But Rookie WR Travis Rudolph once again looked promising as he hauled in 5 catches for 82 yards. Luke Kuechly once again led the team in tackles with 12. And Kawann Short picked up the only sack for the Panthers. And a week after Watson threw 6 INTs, the Panthers awful secondary couldn't find a way to get a single one. We don't know what this team is gonna do to stop the pass this season. Especially since rookie CB Cam Sutton was hurt in week one and will miss significant time. It definitely showed in this game.

The Panthers will look to rebound next week when they travel to Minnesota to take on the 1-1 Vikings. But the way the team played this week, we wouldn't expect much different against the Vikings. Who are coming off a dominant performance against the Steelers 27-3. 1-2, here comes the Panthers.
