NBA Draft Winners: Implications on NBA Live and 2K16

In a league that stoked fan curiosity by repeatedly proclaiming that the exceptional talent to be had in this draft was franchise changing, it’s only fitting that outside of the top 2 picks, most teams fell in line and made the safe choice.

That’s where 2K and NBA Live come into play. Here’s your chance to take control of your team and alter the makeup of your franchise.

Not a fan of Love? Move him to Houston. Think Rondo has a third act in him? Pull a Pat Riley and shake up the entire league and create the Miami Heatles 2.0? The options are endless, here’s a few ways to narrow it down.

Minnesota Timberwolves

Firstly, the Timberwolves, let’s be honest, the pick was a given. Nothing sexy here. If anything, the biggest surprise is that Flip Saunders didn’t find a way to screw it up and draft Emmaunel Mudiay.

Los Angeles Lakers

The best team to make it out of the draft last night was the Lakers. Mitch Kupchuk sprinkled some fairy dust across the league and magically changed the perception of the Lakers overnight. With the media speculation flying around, Kupchuk and the Lakers somehow came out winners without lifting a finger. The allure of the purple and gold, Hollywood, beaches, some of the most attractive women in the world residing in one locale; did we really think that LA wasn’t going to be a top destination for stars players?

Forget about the sixty-one losses, Byron Scott, and Kobe death stares

-- This is Sparta.. I mean Los Angeles and it’s a pretty powerful place. The likes of Demarcus Cousins, Dwayne Wade, LaMarcus Aldridge and Kevin Love have all been linked with a reported move to the Lakers. How often do hear about a team that finished bottom of a conference linked with perennial all-star talent?

Shout-out to Mitch Kupchuk, you da real MVP.

Miami Heat

If Kupchuk is the MVP of the west, it’s only right that we recognize perennial favorite, rumored mafia member, and straight up gangster Pat Riley.

Does this man ever lose? Seriously, gets burned by Lebron, picks up Dragic in a lopsided deal that had the league in bewilderment, then somehow finds a way to draft Winslow with the 10th pick last night. Potential sim managers, if you're looking for a GM 101 study Riley and be amazed. He made video game trades in real life, more than once!

He’ll roll out a potential starting five of Dragic-Wade-Winslow-Bosh with Deng as a sixth man and key reserves Napier, Dragic x2, and Beasley.

That just might be enough to win the woeful East. A year after missing the playoffs and losing Lebron the Heat are back in contention and a contender for the championship. Let’s all take a moment and worship at the altar of Pat Riley, may his blessing shower us with unimaginable trade scenarios and good fortune.

Orlando Magic

The Orlando Magic might just be the best sim team to begin a career with this year. They’re primed for molding, with a young nucleus consisting of Elfrid-Payton, Oladipo, Gordon, Vucevic, and now Mario Hezonja aka Croatian J.R. Smith, they’re on the precipice of being something special.

GM Rob Hennigan hasn’t really been tested yet. This is a big year for him, and his cards are in play. He’s hired Scott Skiles, a rookie whisperer, to help cultivate the youth in his squad while preemptively locking down veterans like Channing Frye and Ben Gordon. This is a team that will experience growing pains but does possess enough to be a playoff team.

Will the Magic shoot for that? Probably not. It’s too risky of an option to make a play this early on. You as a GM though have the ability to change that.

GM tinfoil hat on:

- lock down a scoring guard a la Lou Williams. (Drake-LouWill, great song, must listen)
- Sign and trade Tobias Harris to the Blazers and negotiate a max deal with Aldridge.
- Blazers say no? Trade Harris anyway and look to throw a max contract at Paul Milsap.
- All else fails, throw a monster package at the Kings for Demarcus Cousins and laugh your way to the bank.

Voila, your 2016 NBA champions the Orlando Magic (currently accepting interviews for future positions).

Honorable Mentions:

Toronto Raptors

Your thinking “Raptors… WTF,” I’m a homer and I won’t apologize for it. Get ready for a ton of unwanted Raptors content mixed with a little Drake! But yeah, to sum it up in a sentence; keep Louwill, fire Casey, sign Milsap, find a backup center, replace Vasquez and for the love of everything maple syrup can Bruno get on the court this year?!?

Philadelphia 76ers

This deserves to be an article in itself. Hinkie is in the running for either the best GM to ever do it or the worst. Realizes MCW can’t shoot for nothing, shipped out of town immediately. Log jam at center? Who cares? Noel, Embid, and Okafor can play together, right?

My prediction: Hinkie pulls of Morey type mega deal with all the assets he’s accumulated and trades for a top-three player. Or he flames out and becomes the joke of the league, either or.

Lastly, let’s all appreciate the work done by Willie Cauley-Stein’s jeweler:

All-Star
Great write up ... Lakers get a healthy Kobe and add a FA or two and they will be competing rather quickly

Young magic teams have always been dangerous ... Good recipe in Orlando just need to stay consistent throughout the course of a season which can be hard with young players who are use to playing half of those games in a season

I don't know, I think Lakers fans are going to have to wait a while before they return to glory.
- Aldridge wont be leaving the Blazers and if does it'll only be to the Spurs
- Unless Cousins deal gets done, they really don't haven any pieces for a contender.
- Stay away from Rondo Kupchuk, stay away.

Its going to be the Kobe farewell tour, hopefully, Kobe has a few more highlights in him.
