New York – The New York Football Giants are headed into 2019 with hopes high on returning to the playoffs after a down year in 2018. After one of the most successful regular seasons in franchise history in 2017, the New York Giants stumbled behind some key injuries and regression among their veteran players. With the upcoming season possibly being the last in Eli Manning’s storied career, the Giants have replaced Manning as the starter with rookie QB Denton Bannon out of the University of Florida. Some big names in free agency, along with a draft that gave the Giants some much needed depth have helped the Giants this offseason with their hopes of getting back to the playoffs.

In free agency, the Giants added to their defensive identity, adding two starting linebackers and the new starting left end. These players are 25 year old MLB Denzel Perryman, 27 year old LOLB Jeremiah George, and 25 year old LE Tyrone Holmes. All of these players were much needed in terms of depth and to help the Giants defense get back to championship caliber. Along with these players they added much needed depth in the defensive backfield, singing Senquez Golson to be the Nickel corner. Other signings include new starting LT Michael Oher, starting FB Eric Dwyer, and third-string QB Brett Hundley, who will compete with Eli Manning for the backup QB spot. With these additions, the skill added around the returning veterans is hopefully going to take the Giants to the next level. During the preseason, the Giants traded backup RG Zach Banner to the Texans in return for young WR Braxton Miller, who will immediately slide into the Giants starting Slot Receiver position.

In the 2019 NFL Draft, the Giants added some depth as positions such as the OL and Defensive Backfield. The key to this draft was the QB taken in the first round, as mentioned above. Denton Bannon plans to be the Giants’ starting QB for a long time. Most of the other picks from this draft have ended up on the practice squad to begin the season for the Giants.

The New York Giants are looking forward to their season opener in Philadelphia, as they ended the preseason 3-1. With some much needed snaps to get ready for the season and some position battles hashed out, the Giants are headed back in the right direction for 2019. Here is to a great season and some fun times at MetLife Stadium this season.
